Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas advised flood-prone barangays in the metro to prepare for the onset of rainy season.
The mayor issued preparedness measures on June 1, 2022 for the onset of the rainy season through the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (ICDRRMC).
ICDRRMC ordered the Barangay Risk Reduction and Management Committees to undertake preparedness and precautionary measures.
Among the preparedness measures include the review contingency plan on flooding and check whether the identified preparedness measures are appropriate and adequate.
Barangays are ordered to prepare critical facilities and services in preparation for evacuation during the rainy season.
They are also mandated to conduct inventory of equipment, welfare goods, and other life-saving equipment in preparation for the impending hazard.
Aside from this, city barangays must monitor and inspect low-lying areas and conduct risk assessment to flood-prone and rain-induced landslide-prone barangays.
They must also coordinate with the CDRRM Operations Center regarding any issues and observations that need immediate action.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced the start of the rainy season in the country last May 18.
With the onset of the rainy season, intermittent rain due to the southwest monsoon or hanging habagat is expected to affect western parts of the Philippines. (DG)
