Iloilo City is seeking to win again as top spot in terms of business-friendliness outside of the country’s capital this year.

Iloilo City was adjudged winner of 2019 Most Business-Friendly Highly Urbanized City (HUC) outside Manila by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

“We were able to share the initiatives of City Government as to how we adjust and plan for COVID-19 pandemic and the cooperation of community and business sector in this fight against the virus,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas stressed.

“The shortlist as finalist is another affirmation of business confidence. We have seen since Day 1 how active and strong our Public-Private Partnership as donors have been helping and supporting our developmental endeavors,” he added.

The mayor virtually faced Monday the panel of judges to highlight the metropolis in the contest.

PCCI gives annual recognition to Local Government Units (LGUs) that have demonstrated outstanding efforts in instituting good governance reforms to promote trade and investments, transparency, accountability, and efficiency in delivering business services to generate inclusive and sustainable growth, and fast track local economic development in their localities.

The awarding is set during PCCI’s 46th Philippine Business Conference and Expo via Zoom on Oct. 7-8.

It serves as a venue for policymakers, business leaders, diplomats, academe, and micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to meet and discuss issues and come up with policy recommendations that would help create business environment that is sustainable and resilient.

Touted as the country’s biggest corporate event, themed innovation@ph is an agenda that aims to provide the roadmap for businesses to effectively navigate uncharted territories and for the country to chart a more sustainable and secure future.

It will look closely into the country’s innovation ecosystem and deep dive into how executives in government and across industries are leading digital transformation across different aspects of government and business operations. (Iloilo City PIO)
