Despite the raging Covid-19 pandemic raging all over the world and at home, the GSP Iloilo Council notched an impressive record in the history of Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme (CGSMS) with 36 awardees for 2019-2020.

The Chief Girl Scout Medal is the highest award that a Senior Girl Scout or a Cadet Girl Scout can receive after completing a community development project in the areas of ecology, health, livelihood, or cultural heritage. The Scheme is built on the concept of the total development of the girl: Spiritual, Mental, Physical, Social and Emotional.

It is a continuing incentive that Senior and Cadet Girl Scouts can aspire for as they become actively involved in community and nation-building.

The girls worked for a year to implement laudable projects which serves as a challenge to their leadership skills, discipline, management and resourcefulness. They enjoin the support of families, local leaders and neighbors to manifest their sense of responsibility and concern for the good of their community.

Marie Claire E. Laru-an, Iloilo GSP Council Executive said, “We are very pleased with these achievements because it means that girl scouting is able to motivate these girls to make a positive impact and help make their own world a better place to live in. I see how they have become self-empowered with confidence and continue to be good role models especially to the younger ones.”.

Laruan added, “This is the highest number of awardees we have produced since the CGMS started.”  The Iloilo Girl Scout Council has produced 258 Chief Girl Scout Medalists since it was launched nationwide in 1977.
