ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Police on Monday filed charges against a kagawad (council member) of Brgy. San Pedro Pontevedra, Capiz that was arrested Saturday morning, Dec. 3, for possessing unlicensed firearm.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 10951 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunitions) were filed against Pacifico Fuentes Dais before the Provincial Prosecutors Office.
The team from the Regional Mobile Group, Capiz Highway Patrol Group, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and Pontevedra Municipal Police Station served the search warrant on the house of Dais, 46, based on the complaint of a concerned citizen that he was possessing unlicensed firearms.
The complainant also said that the kagawad indiscriminately fired his gun in their place.
The search warrant was issued by Judge Isabel Poco-Deslate of Regional Trial Court Branch 19 in Roxas City on Dec. 2, 2022.
Recovered during the raid a .45 caliber and two magazines of the said firearm loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunitions.
Lt. Danilo Matahum, CIDG-Capiz officer-in-charge, said the search operation took a few minutes because of the video footage that served as evidence.
He added that the video was taken by somebody a night before where Dais was seen carrying a gun during a commotion that happened in their place.
The firearm was found in Dais’s backyard.
The kagawad admitted that he owned the firearm. He failed to present valid permits for the gun.
Dais is presently in the custody of CIDG-Capiz.
