BACOLOD CITY – Police are investigating the death of a man who was sealed in a sack and dumped at Sitio Cabakahan, Barangay Cabatangan, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, last Wednesday.

Police Major Wilfredo Benoman Jr., deputy chief of Talisay City Police Station, identified the victim as Joemund Espartero, 36, of the said village.

Benoman stated that a bantay bukid volunteer discovered the victim beside the highway due to a foul odor.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head, based on physical injuries, but other injuries have yet to be determined pending the autopsy results, Benoman noted.

The victim was positively identified by his brother, who told the police that he last saw him alive on May 12.

The victim did not inform his family of his activities when he left their house on May 12. His family did not report him missing because he would reportedly often leave the house for days and later come back, according to Benoman.

Benoman believes that the victim might have been dumped there, but the crime was committed elsewhere. He said they are eyeing more than two persons as responsible for the killing.

The area is somewhat far from the houses, so nobody witnessed the incident.

Police have no leads yet on the perpetrators and motive. They are still checking the background of the victim.
