BACOLOD City – A man surrendered to the police last Thursday, a week after an elderly man was killed in a hit-and-run incident at Circumferential road, Barangay Montevista here last week.

However, Police Captain Francis Depasucat, head of Police Station 4, did not reveal the name of the tri-wheel driver-suspect, pending the filing of the case for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

Depasucat said the suspect surfaced at the police station on September 14, claiming that he did not know that the victim suffered serious injuries.

Noli Chan, 72, of Barangay Villamonte, was riding a bike on his way home when he was hit by a tri-wheel vehicle on September 7.

Depasucat said the suspect alleged that he overtook and hit the victim’s bike. He paused at a distance but he fled due to fear, the station commander added.

The suspect told the police that he only learned about the death of the victim from the news.

He said the victim’s family and the driver have already met, and the former is willing to pursue the charges against the latter.
