Man nabbed for selling ‘overpriced alcohol,’ illegal gun possession

BACOLOD CITY – A man was arrested in an entrapment operation for allegedly selling overpriced alcohol and illegal possession of firearm at Barangay Poblacion 7, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental on Tuesday.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Negros Oriental and personnel of Tanjay City Police Station collared Baltazar Magtortor Jr., 43, of Barangay Poblacion 8.

Police recovered from Magtortor six gallons (18 liters) of Ethyl alcohol, P500 cash, P35,000 bogus money, and a cellular phone.

Several individuals have been arrested for selling overpriced alcohol since it is considered essential in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Authorities also seized from the suspect a .45 caliber pistol with a magazine with seven live ammunitions and another live ammunition in the gun chamber.

Magtortor will be charged for violation of Republic Act (RA) 7581 or the Price Act in relation to violation of RA 11469 or the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.”

He is additional charges for violation of RA 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
