BACOLOD City – A woman was stabbed to death by her live-in-partner who also stabbed himself inside their rented house at Barangay Villamonte here early Tuesday.
Police identified the fatality as Maria Ann Tamonan, 26, of Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
The suspect identified as Lendon Dinawanan, 37, of Barangay Villamonte suffered a self-inflicted wound.
Police Lieutenant Greeky Cayao, deputy police chief of Police Station 4, said Tamonan came home past 12 am which angered the suspect.
“Nagpuli kuno late ang biktima tapos nag lalisay na sila,” he added.
Cayao said the couple figured in a heated argument until Dinawanan allegedly stabbed Tamonan in the back twice with a kitchen knife.
Cayao said the couple’s neighbor who witnessed the incident heard the victim begging her partner, quoting the victim saying, “Maluoy ka, may bata ta (Have mercy. We have a child).”
When the neighbor saw the victim lying on the ground, the suspect also stabbed his abdomen, Cayao said.
Cayao said the couple always argue, but it was the first time that it ended in violence. The kitchen knife was recovered from the scene.
Tamonan died on the spot, while Dinawanan, who underwent surgery yesterday, is still confined to a hospital here.
Cayao said jealousy may have triggered the incident.
“Seloso abi kuno ang suspect, gapangimon gid,” he added.
Cayao said the couple had been staying at their rented house for about a month now.
They also have a two-year-old daughter, but she was not staying at their house when it happened.
