Man who killed son yields to police authorities

A 55-year-old father surrendered to police hours after killing his son in a knife attack inside their house in Alimodian, Iloilo.

Still nursing a black eye, Nestor Camitan (not Canitan as earlier stated in the police report), turned himself in around 7 p.m. of Dec 27, 2021.

Camitan stabbed to death his 27-year-old son, Archie Caguilla, following an altercation around 1 a.m. of the same day inside their home at Barangay Baguingin-Lanot.

The suspect confirmed claims by police investigators that he had a misunderstanding with his son because the latter “has not been helping with their family.”

Despite that, Camitan claimed that he was saddened how things ended for them.

He added that he also feels sad for his son’s 10-month-old child.

But things happened and Camitan claimed he’s ready to face the charges against him.

Caguilla, a resident of Barangay Cuyad, Alimodian, succumbed to a lone stab injury on his chest.

He was taken to Aleosan District Hospital but did not pull through.

The victim went there to help in packing their mango produce when his father arrived.

Master Sergeant Michael Alingalan, Alimodian police investigator, explained that Caguilla’s parents are not married, thus, he was carrying his mother’s surname.

Camitan left them and returned home when the victim was already 16 years old.

The suspect was drunk during the incident and provoked the victim to a fight.

A verbal tussle ensued between the two.

The suspect’s wife and victim’s mother claimed that it was Camitan who first threw the punch.

The two shortly traded punches until they both fell on a bamboo bench.

It was at that juncture that Canitan took a knife and stabbed his son.

He immediately fled after the incident but surrendered hours later.
