BACOLOD City – Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) raised the level of their operations against rebels through the conduct of series of checkpoint in Negros Occidental.
In a press release sent to the media on Tuesday, authorities recovered a back pack containing a .45 caliber pistol with live ammunition, medicines, personal belongings, and other subversive documents with high intelligence value at Sitio Curba Hagnaya, Barangay Tabun-ac, Toboso town on Sunday.
Troops of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) and personnel of Toboso Municipal Police Station manned a checkpoint when they noticed two unidentified persons on a motorcycle with no plate number suddenly stop about 30 meters away from the checkpoint area.
While the troops approached them, they immediately ran towards a secluded area leaving the said items.
Colonel Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) commander, said that the two persons were believed to be members of the Special Partisan Unit (SPARU) of the New People’s Army (NPA).
It can be recalled that on February 28, the troops under 62nd IB encountered about 10 armed rebels at Sitio Agpapatao, Barangay Binobohan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, where two SPARU members were killed.
