Thermal scanners will keep tabs of the power distribution lines in Iloilo City, according to MORE Electric and Power Corp. The new distribution utility in the city recently acquired two infrared thermography for the electrical distribution system as part of its modernization project.
Engr. John Louie C. Capospos, officer-in-charge of the Distribution Planning and Design department, thermal scanners can detect the status of distribution lines, connectors, transformers and other facilities.
The scanners work like thermometers by taking the temperature of facilities. If the facility or equipment registers high temperature, it signals the need to repair or replace that part to avoid unscheduled brownouts.
MORE Power recently conducted thermal scanning on five power substations including power transformer bushings and main take off points of feeder lines.
The results of the scanning will become the basis for future corrections, if needed, after the preventive maintenance on the substations.
Meanwhile, MORE Power’s 10-megavolt ampere mobile substation arrived in Iloilo City Sunday evening.
The P15-million equipment arrived at Culasi Port in Roxas City around 1 pm Sunday and was fetched by MORE Power personnel.
The facility was moved by land to Iloilo City and reached its destination around 8 pm.
The mobile substation will be stationed at Megaworld’s Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao district to ease the load of the 25 to 30MVA power transformer in the district which has reached critical levels due to numerous commercial areas.
Another 30MVA mobile substation is also on its way and this will serve as backup or alternative during major repairs and rehabilitations of existing substations.
These acquisitions are part of MORE Power’s modernization and development plan to improve the quality of electric distribution in the city.
