There’s a new star duo in town.

After a massive and surprising swap that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, another blockbuster acquisition headlined the 2025 NBA trade deadline craze.

Welcome to the San Antonio Spurs, De’Aaron Fox.

Finally, Victor Wembanyama will be having an All-Star teammate who can help the San Antonio franchise revive their hopes of an NBA playoff drought.

A three-team trade involving the Chicago Bulls finalized the deal, landing Fox and Jordan McLaughlin to the Spurs while Sacramento received Zach Lavine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks, and three second-round picks.

On the other hand, Chicago will be welcoming Zach Collins and Tre Jones from the Spurs and Sacramento’s Kevin Huerter.

Fox was a former fifth overall pick during the 2017 NBA Rookie Draft and rose to stardom when he helped the Sacramento franchise end a 16-year NBA post-season drought in 2023.

During that run, Fox gave the entire Kings nation hope of a deep playoff push when they rose to a 2-0 series lead over Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors but unfortunately folded in the second half of the first-round duel.

After that massive season, Fox wasn’t able to replicate his magic the following year and only made the play-in stage, resulting in a disappointing end fresh off a third-seed appearance.

Fox was still averaging stellar numbers before departing the Kings: with 25.0 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. It is still unknown if he will be fielded at the same time with Chris Paul, San Antonio’s current starting point guard.

The combo guard is expected to create a formidable duo with Wembanyama, San Antonio’s generational talent and perennial superstar.

San Antonio has been targeting a return to the NBA playoffs since the 2019-2020 season and with the roster they built after trading for Fox, a bright future awaits the silver and black fan base.
