BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here reported five active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total to 36 as of Nov 12, 2020.
Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, deputy public information officer of Nocppo, said the five infected officers are all asymptomatic.
These COVID-infected cops are currently in a quarantine facility, Donasco added.
Of the total number of cases, 31 have recovered from the virus and have returned to work, she said.
Meanwhile, Donasco also clarified that Nocppo has no COVID-related casualty among its personnel.
A police non-commissioned officer assigned in a municipal police station was initially reported to have died from mild stroke due to COVID-19.
But Donasco said that his death was not classified as a COVID death.
Donasco said that the policeman indeed tested positive for COVID after he was diagnosed for a stroke, but it was later found out that the stroke was really the cause of his death.
Donasco reminded cops to continue practicing the health protocols for their safety, considering that they are also helping in the province’s COVID fight.
