BACOLOD CITY – An individual believed to be a New People’s Army (NPA) member surrendered to authorities in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, last Thursday.

The Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion reported that the 55-year-old man was previously part of Squad 1 and Taxation of the now-disbanded Northern Negros Front (NNF)-D, under the Komiteng Rehiyon Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor (KRNCBS).

Police Lt. Col. Nazer Canja, the city police chief, stated the man had been involved in the insurgency for four years.

“He surrendered due to exhaustion,” Canja said.

Following his surrender, the ex-combatant underwent an assessment by police and military personnel to qualify for government assistance.
