BACOLOD CITY – A total of 236 policemen will be deployed to secure two major sports events in the city from May 25 to June 1.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ronnie Brillo, administrative officer for the office of the City Director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), announced that most of the deployment will focus on the 1st Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez Sportsfest at Panaad Park and Stadium.

Brillo said that 139 policemen will be stationed at the venue to maintain peace and order.

At least 17,000 athletes and 1,300 teams are expected to participate in the event, making it the biggest sports gathering in the city. A total of 60 barangays will join the sportsfest, which is scheduled to begin on Saturday.

Additionally, Brillo stated that 97 police officers will be designated to the same venue for the Philippine Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games 2024 Visayas Regional Qualifying Leg, hosted by the city government from May 26 to June 1.

Over 3,000 delegates are anticipated to join the ROTC games, which will officially kick off on Sunday.

Themed “Husay ng ROTC, Husay ng Kabataan,” participants will compete in 14 sports, including arnis, boxing, chess, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball, target shooting, swimming, and the Ms. ROTC 2024 pageant.

Senator Francis Tolentino, honorary chairperson of the Games’ Executive Organizing Committee, earlier announced that the entire technical team of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will be present, along with international referees.
