BACOLOD City – A man died while his son was wounded in a multiple vehicle collision at Barangay 2, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

Killed in the accident was Jimmy Abellar Sr., 43, of Barangay Tanza while the wounded was Jimmy Abellar Jr., 21.

Police Staff Sergeant Ritchel Lorque, investigator of E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, said the younger Abellar, who was driving a motorcycle, was tailing a utility van on their way to the town proper.

While the two vehicles were signaling to execute a left turn, a trailer truck that was tailing the motorcycle hit the latter that led to the pileup.

“Daw na alang-alang preno ang truck pag pundo ka motor kay may naglabay sa tubang nila before sila mag liko,” Lorque said.

The motorcycle was then pushed towards the van that led to the death of the older Abellar, according to Lorque.

“Daw nag domino and na sandwich ang motor sa ila duha,” he added.

Lorque said the younger Abellar was referred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here, and is now in stable condition.

He said there was an initial settlement among the parties involved. Thus, the truck driver will be released from police custody, after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.
