The Philippine Basketball Association decided to fine PBA legend and Converge assistant coach Danny Ildefonso with 20,000 pesos after posting comments on social media that were detrimental to the league.
Right after Converge’s come-from-behind victory over the TNT Tropang Giga, Ildefonso was summoned by the PBA and appeared before Commissioner Willie Marcial.
In a Facebook post tackling his son’s unsuccessful signing with the NorthPort Batang Pier, Dave Ildefonso, Danny was spotted replying to random netizens who were throwing shades at his son.
First, the former PBA MVP and multi-champion responded to a certain “Ronald Madaje Peñas” who commented: “Banned Na Yan”.
Ildefonso, who carries the Facebook handle name “Lakay Danny Ildefonso”, replied with: “sabihin mo yan sa farm team mo”.
Lastly, Ildefonso was seen again responding to the comment of “Diego Fluke Dimagiba” when he typed: “Ban nayan para d tularan ng iba,” to which he replied: “ban mo yung mga farm team gusto naming sa team na gustong manalo at mag champion”.
For those who don’t understand the concept of farm teams in the PBA, these franchises are suspected of becoming a breeding ground for the larger markets, where they keep their respective top talents only to be traded to the big fishes in the PBA such as Ginebra, Magnolia, TNT, and San Miguel.
During their post-game meeting, Marcial expressed that Ildefonso just got carried away by his emotions and only tried to defend his son’s reputation.
“Hindi mo maiaalis, anak niya ‘yun. Ang sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Ganyan talaga.’ Kasama sa trabaho ‘yan. So kailangan talaga relax lang,” added Marcial.
