The Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) board has decided to wait until August to make their final decision regarding their 45th season.

“Maghihintay kami until August to decide whether it’s still a go or a season cancellation,” PBA commissioner Willie Marcial relayed the information to the league’s official website PBA.ph.

After their online meeting last Saturday, the PBA board postponed their decision, especially that the national government extended the enhanced community quarantine, until May 15 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

During their previous online meeting, the majority of the PBA board favored the shortening of the season to just two conferences to fit in all the games. But at this point, even that remedy can’t fill into the situation.

Also, even if the ECQ will be downgraded to general community quarantine (GCQ), sports activities are still prohibited, so resuming the season after the ECQ would be impossible.

The only allowed activities among the PBA teams are re-signing and trading players, but practices are still canceled.
