The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Assisted Step 1 Registration in Guimaras reached the target number of registrants ahead of schedule with 34,195 Guimarasnons registered for the month of February 2021, 13.08% more than the 30,240 target registrants from Jan 18, 2021 to March 31, 2021.
The towns of Jordan, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag exceeded the number of target registrants for the first quarter (Q1) of 2021, while the municipality of Buenavista is at 85.99% with 7,511 individuals registered out of the 8,735 target registrants in the municipality for the first quarter of 2021.
Also, 8,657 individuals were registered in Jordan, 38.48% more than the 6,251 target registrants in the municipality; 7,822 individuals were registered in Nueva Valencia, 13.46% more than the 6,894 target registrants; 5,431 individuals were registered in San Lorenzo, 20.10% more than the 4,522 target registrants; and 4,774 individuals were registered in Sibunag, 24.41% more than the 3,837 target registrants in the municipality for Q1 of 2021.
“The PhilSys Team in Guimaras expects to reach the target number of registrants in Buenavista by the first week of March, while registration is still ongoing for the municipalities of Jordan, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag,” said Guimaras Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare.
“Registration in Nueva Valencia was temporarily stopped due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in the municipality; the safety of the public as well as of our data collectors is of utmost importance and minimum health safety protocols such as wearing of face masks and social distancing are strictly observed to ensure the safe conduct of PhilSys registration,” she added.
The Assisted Step 1 Registration of the PhilSys involves PSA data collectors conducting house-to-house interviews in pre-identified barangays in the province to collect the demographic data of individuals aged 0 years old and above.
Registrants aged 5 years old and above will be scheduled for the PhilSys Step 2 Registration which involves the capture of biometric data: complete set of fingerprints, iris scan, and front-facing photograph at assigned PhilSys registration centers all over the province.
Registrants below 5 years old will be scheduled for the Step 2 Registration once they reach the age of five.
Pre-identified barangays covered in February were Balcon Maravilla and Morobuan in Jordan; Sto. Rosario, Rizal, Old Poblacion, and New Poblacion in Buenavista; Canhawan, Guiwanon, Igdarapdap, Panobolon, and San Roque in Nueva Valencia; Cabungahan, Sebario, and Gaban in San Lorenzo; and Bubog, Sebaste, and Tanglad in Sibunag.
Registration is ongoing in barangays New Poblacion, Gaban, and Tanglad while pre-identified barangays covered in January were Hoskyn and Rizal in Jordan; Supang and Zaldivar in Buenavista; Dolores and Tando in Nueva Valencia; San Enrique in San Lorenzo; and Dasal in Sibunag.
The Step 2 Registration for individuals registered in the first quarter of 2021 will be scheduled in the months of April, May, and June 2021.
Guimarasnons who will not be registered in the PhilSys in January to March 2021 will be registered in the remaining months of the year either through the Assisted Step 1 Registration or via online registration.
In Western Visayas, PhilSys Assisted Step 1 Registration was at 80.98% accomplishment as of February, with Guimaras the only province to reach the 100% mark ahead of deadline.
Iloilo is at 90.96% accomplishment, followed by Capiz (78.26%), Aklan (75.76%), Negros Occidental (73.58%), and Antique (72.61%).
As of February 26, 2021, PhilSys has already reached its target of 20 million Step 1 Registrants nationwide for the first quarter of 2020.
