Police probe murder try on drug surrenderer

BACOLOD City – Police are looking for witnesses who can testify on the alleged shooting incident that injured a drug surrenderer at Villa Angela, Barangay Villamonte here last Friday.

Major Charles Gever, head of Police Station 4, said Mark Anthony Cubos of Barangay 4 here was on board a Toyota Vios when unidentified armed men fired at his vehicle.

Gever said there were reports that a red vehicle was seen parked at the area prior to the incident, but nobody saw the actual incident – whether a brief chase happened or the victim was waylaid.

“We have circumstantial evidence, we need actual witnesses to determine what really happened,” he added.

Gever said the victim was able to drive towards the checkpoint in front of Helvetia Heights and asked assistance from policemen.

Cubos was taken to a hospital after he suffered two injuries in the head and chest. His car was riddled with bullets.

Police initially recovered from the scene 12 pieces of ammunition shells of an unknown caliber.

Gever said Cubos previously surrendered through Oplan Tokhang in the area of Police Station 2.

Police don’t have a motive yet on the incident, as they are waiting for the victim’s statement to aid them in their investigation.

Gever said the victim told the police that he will give a statement once he gets better. He is still confined at a hospital here.
