BACOLOD City – The Simplicio A. Palanca Seaport Terminal at the Bredco port here is preparing for the resumption of passenger roll-on/roll-off and fast craft ferry trips.

Lt. Commander Jansen Benjamin, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Negros Occidental head, said the port’s personnel started installing markings inside the terminal to ensure that social distancing measures will be followed.

The markers were installed on the floors for passengers queuing at the ticketing kiosks, and boarding gates, as well as on the chairs.

Benjamin said alcohol will also be available in all areas of the terminal.

An isolation room is available at the terminal clinic.

Benjamin said temperature checks will be carried out on all passengers and anyone who exhibits a fever will immediately be brought to the isolation room.

A meeting between port officials, the PCG, and ferry operators was also held Monday afternoon to discuss further preparations and the protocols to be implemented once the trips resume.

Benjamin further said that the ferry operators still need to apply for a special permit before the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) prior to resuming passenger operations.

Ferry operators will still follow the minimum health protocols set by Marina such as boarding only 50 percent of the vessel’s total seating capacity.

Passengers will also be required to wear face masks at all times.

Fastcraft and RORO operators will also be required to disinfect passenger accommodation areas after every trip.
