PRO-6 to recall 26 cops deployed as security escorts

THE Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) said it would recall all police officers assigned as official protective security details to elected and other government officials.

Superintendent Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said the 26 police officers detailed as police escorts would be recalled when the election period for 2019 midterm polls starts on Jan. 13, 2019.

With three days to go before the election period starts, the PRO-6 has yet to receive any application for police security detail from government officials.

Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, Western Visayas police chief, said he has not signed any such application.

As of Jan. 10, only applications from Antique province were received by local police.

Politicians and government officials with existing police security personnel could still apply.

Once application is placed, the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) would conduct threat assessment.

“Once threat to his or her life is established, I would endorse it to the chief of the Philippine National Police before it will be endorsed to the Commission on Election,” Bulalacao said.

A maximum of two police officers would be assigned to every approved application.

Meanwhile, Bulalacao warned policemen who would serve as security personnel without any approval from the Comelec. He said appropriate sanctions will be slapped against them.
