Region 6 records 105 new COVID-19 cases

More than 100 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were reported by the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) on Friday, August 21, 2020.

Local cases still account for the latest batch of cases at 103, or 98 percent of the total of new cases. The other cases include a Locally Stranded Individual (LSI) and an Authorized Person Outside of Residence.

Broken down by location of residence, Bacolod City topped the list with 38 new cases, followed by both Iloilo City and Negros Occidental province with 28 new cases each, and Iloilo province with 11.

No new cases were recorded in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras provinces.

Sixteen new recoveries were also reported – 9 recoveries from Bacolod City, 4 from Iloilo province, and 3 from Capiz province.

Three new deaths were reported in Bacolod City (2) and Iloilo City (1).

The region now has 1,746 active COVID-19 cases, with 85.91 percent classified as asymptomatic, while 10.94 percent have Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), and 3.15 percent with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

DOH data also indicated 1,746 total recoveries and 53 total deaths, bringing the regional tally to 3,257 confirmed cases as of Aug 21.

A total of 785 test results via Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) from six accredited laboratories were released by the DOH-WV CHD Friday, with 665 negative results and 15 positive repeat results.
