Bacolod City- The renovation of the Sum-ag Public Market and the construction of health centers in some areas in this city are underway.
Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya said that he has requested the national government for bigger funding for the renovation of the Sum-ag Public Market, one of the biggest barangays here.
Gasataya said the market will be converted into a 2-storey building.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has started the renovation of the Sum-ag Public Market and Granada Public Market, as well as the construction of a public market in Brgy. Banago in December last year.
Gasataya said the two projects have a budget of about P16 million each, while the Sum-ag Public Market has a budget of P41 million.
The DPWH has requested the barangays concerned to help ensure that no vendor will be displaced.
They hope that the Granada and Banago satellite markets will be finished within this year, Gasataya said.
Meanwhile, Gasataya said that among his priorities this year is the construction of eight health centers in the city.
The health centers are in Barangays Alijis, Cabug, Punta Taytay, Taculing, Villamonte, Estefania, Banago, and Mansilingan.
He said he saw the need for additional health centers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Gasataya said the Department of Public Works and Highways has started the concreting of a dirt road connecting Barangay Alangilan in Bacolod City to Brgy. Alegria in Murcia, Negros Occidental last year.
He said they hope to finish in a few months the project that will provide easy access to people from Garanada and Alangilan to travel to Murcia town.
The project will also open the area to economic and tourism opportunities and will be more easily accessible for people from Bacolod going to Murcia.
