Fewer vehicular-related incident in Iloilo province were recorded in the past nine months of 2021.
Records from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO)’s Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit showed that 1,675 incidents were reported in January to November 2021, lower by 9 percent against last year’s 1,845 incidents.
The incidents this year resulted in 112 deaths. They also led to 764 cases of damage to property and 800 cases of physical injuries.
Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo police chief, said the plummeting statistics could be due to the series of border control checkpoints during the first semester and the massive campaign against reckless driving.
The IPPO has been consistent in its information drive for road safety through its Kape kag Balita, a morning news program on its Facebook Page, and other advocacy channels.
Gorero said that random checkpoints also played a factor in preventing road mishaps.
Meanwhile, IPPO noted that motorcycle-related incidents still topped the list of road incidents in the past two years.
Last year, 786 motorcycles were involved in road accidents and it went up to 861 this year, or an increase of 9.54 percent.
IPPO has already intensified the random checkpoint and presence of mobile patrols in highways to prevent the rising statistics of road accidents in the province.
