The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Capiz 1st District Engineering Office initiated a road widening project at the Cuartero-Tapulang-Maayon Junction Road, specifically at barangays Pina and Salgan in Maayon, Capiz.
The ₱49-million project involves the widening of a 2.3-kilometer road that includes stone masonry, metal guardrails, drainage works, and thermoplastic pavement markings.
Citing from the report of District Engineer Nonie A. Viyar, DPWH Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the widening project is funded under the General Appropriations Acts (GAA) and seeks to increase road capacity and protect the safety of travelers along the Junction National Road.
“The road widening project in Capiz was developed to boost road capacity among commuters while also ensuring their safety along the way. With the completion of this project, traffic congestion in the area will become more manageable, providing everyone with better accessibility,” Bueno said.
The additional lanes will also provide vehicles of all types with an additional area to traverse, freeing up space in other lanes.
Bueno also highlighted the significance of road expansion in Capiz since it will enhance the quality of life and contribute to the social and economic growth of the residents, particularly in Maayon.
“DPWH assures that development and efficiency in roadway traffic will be maintained. This road expansion project in Maayon is essential as it has consistently been a major route for travelers going through Capiz,” Bueno concluded. (DPWH-6)
