Deputy speaker Mikee Romero asked for national executives to improve and modify road infrastructures favorable to bicycle riders because of the growing number of riders in the country.

With various groups promoting bikes as a primary mode of transportation and the recent giving out of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) of 100 bikes to the PH athletes, Romero thinks this is the time to prioritize the bikers on the road.

The former Philippine Cycling Federation president is strongly advocating for allowing bikes in the national road but cited accident prone zones in his appeal, emphasizing that the bikers should have their own lane to avoid such.

“If we have to embrace bicycle as an important mode of transportation then we need to upgrade our road infrastructure. At least there will be barriers,” said Romero.

In line with the COVID-19 pandemic, the POC, Philippine Sports Commission, and other cycling groups have encouraged everyone to use bikes as their mode of transportation not only to practice social distancing but to also keep everyone healthy.

“Since bicycling is a good exercise and very affordable, we need good protective road facilities not just ordinary line of paint so that everybody even the students would be safe,” added Romero.
