Roxas City mayor holds stall rental increases again

Roxas City Mayor Ronnie T. Dadivas (second from left) heeds the request of traders to postpone the increase in stall rentals at the Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center (TATC).

Roxas City Mayor Ronnie T. Dadivas heeded the request of the Grocery and Miscellaneous Association Inc. (GROMISC) headed by Elias Cabarles to hold the increase in stall rentals at the Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center (TATC).

This is the second time that Dadivas postponed the increase after the City Council passed an ordinance in March 2020 amending the rentals at the public market which remain unchanged for a decade already.

But the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 prompted Dadivas to postpone the enforcement of the ordinance.

In 2021, GROMISC again appealed for the moratorium as they have yet to recover from the brunt of the pandemic.

In response, Dadivas asked the City Council through Councilors Paul Baticados, Committee on Economic Enterprise chair; and Gary Potato, Committee on Ways and Means chair, to pass an ordinance that will defer the stall rental increases.

Roxas City has one of the cities with the lowest rent for stalls in LGU-run markets.

Stalls for Agricultural Products, Dry Goods and Groceries in the posterior area of the TATC are rented at P8 per square meter.

Stalls in the interior areas are rented at P6/sq m.

The Meat, Poultry and Fish section stalls are leased at P5/sq m.
