A scrap dealer was stabbed after purchasing a supposedly “broken” electric fan in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on May 1 at Sitio Bantud, Barangay Cabilauan.
The victim, identified only as alias Jie, 42, from Barangay Maquina, Dumangas town, sustained a stab wound to his right arm.
According to police reports, the assailant, a 31-year-old known as alias Mel, became irate after discovering his father had sold his electric fan.
Captain Cedrick Cruz, Barotac Nuevo police chief, explained that Mel’s father likely believed the fan was inoperative.
Under the influence of alcohol, Mel allegedly accosted the scrap dealer and stabbed him in the arm before fleeing the scene.
Authorities apprehended Mel two hours later in nearby Barangay Monpon, where he initially pretended to be another scrap dealer.
Mel is now detained and faces charges of attempted homicide.
