The Sexual Health and Empowerment (SHE) Project, a six-year initiative focused on advancing women’s health and rights in the Philippines, officially wrapped up on Oct. 24 with a celebratory event, “YES SHE DID!” at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria.
The project made substantial progress in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention for women and girls in marginalized and conflict-affected regions.
Over 86,000 individuals, including peer educators, community leaders, and health providers, were directly impacted by the SHE Project, which operated in Regions V, VIII, IX, X, XIII, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“The SHE Project has proven that true empowerment happens when communities come together to drive change,” said Rhoda Avila, acting executive director of Oxfam Pilipinas. “Today, we celebrate not just the milestones we’ve reached but the lasting impact we’ve made in women’s lives across the Philippines.”
Canadian Counsellor John Lok praised the collaborative spirit behind the project. “The SHE Project is a testament to what can be achieved when we prioritize women’s rights and health, paving the way for healthier, more equitable communities,” he said.
An End of Project Evaluation (EOP) presentation outlined SHE’s achievements and provided recommendations for future SRHR programs. National Government Agencies (NGAs) like the Department of Health, the Philippine Commission on Women, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development accepted knowledge products from the project, ensuring that SHE’s resources will continue to support SRHR advocacy.
Dr. Ingrid Magnata, Jhpiego Philippines’ country program manager, emphasized SHE’s lasting influence. “The SHE Project empowered communities to take control of their health, break down barriers, and create safe spaces for women and girls. Our journey may be complete, but the impact of SHE will resonate for years to come,” she said.
The event also featured the launch of the SHE Coffee Table Book, documenting real-life success stories, and recognized individuals and groups who contributed to SHE’s impact on women’s rights and health in the Philippines.
