Newly elected and re-elected officials in Iloilo City will take their oath of office today, June 27, 2022.
Re-elected Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the oath taking ceremony will be a “simple” one and will take place at Plaza Libertad in front of the city hall (not lloilo City Freedom Grandstand).
“Ang aton oath taking will be a simple oath taking. We requested everyone na ma-Filipiniana. It will be on Monday at 10 o’clock dira lang sa Freedom and mabutang lang kita daw stage,” he said in a previous media interview.
The mayor said Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, a close friend of Iloilo City, will administer the oath to the newly and re-elected city officials.
Zubiri will sit as the Senate’s officer-in-charge or Senate President Pro Tempore, on June 29, 2022 until the start of the 19th Congress. He is also eyeing the Senate presidency for the 19th Congress.
Meanwhile, Treñas said he invited all the elected city councilors including those who were not under the banner Team Uswag.
“Ang tanan nga nagdaog konsehal gin-imbitar, I hope they will attend and their families. After sina back to work kita,” he said.
Treñas has secured his fresh term following his landslide win in the recently concluded May 9 elections alongside re-elected Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon.
Team Uswag slate also secured ten out of the 12 seats at the Iloilo City Council with Lawyer Sedfrey Cabaluna earning the top spot.
The newly elected councilors include Miguel Treñas, son of Mayor Jerry Treñas; Dr. Nick Baronda, father of reelected lone district Rep. Julienne Baronda and incumbent Councilor Lady Julie Grace “Love-Love” Baronda; Atty. Rex Sarabia, son of the late former city councilor and late judge Ma. Rita Bascos Sarabia; and businessman Johnny Young will join the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Meanwhile, re-elected councilors Alan Zaldivar, Atty. Frances Parcon, Candice Magdalane Tupas, Rommel Duron, and Ely Estante secured fresh terms at the City Council. (DG)
