A teenager accused of stabbing his 35-year-old neighbor surrendered to police authorities a day after the incident.

Members of the Iloilo City Police Station fetched the 17-year-old suspect in Dao, Capiz around 1:30 a.m. on June 5.

Captain Benjie Dicen, Molo police chief, said the suspect sought refuge from his father’s relatives in Capiz province following the stabbing episode.

The teen suspect owned up to the killing of Joseph Alisin, 35, of Barangay Calumpang, Molo.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. Sunday as the victim, along with two other minors, were on their way home after attending a Flores de Mayo or Mayflower activity.

As they were walking on the street, the suspect threw an empty beer bottle at them.

Alisin approached the minor, but the latter repeatedly stabbed him.

The victim’s companion fled, leaving the victim.

Alisin was rushed to the hospital but he died minutes later.

In his defense, the suspect claimed that the victim approached him and thumped his head.

“Napikon siya kuno kay ginkadol siya sa ulo,” Dicen said.

This allegedly irked him and drove him to stab the victim.

A family member claimed that the victim was wielding two bladed weapons early Saturday.

Reports said that the suspect had been caught before for violating the curfew ordinance.

Meanwhile, Dicen said that Alisin’s family has pushed for the filing of the criminal charge against the suspect.
