BACOLOD City – A tricycle driver died after he was hit by a motorcycle loaded with lumber and wood planks in Barangay Bagonawa, San Enrique, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Killed in the accident was Ernesto Espinosa, 57, of Barangay Baliwagan.

Police Major Bonifacio Aral Jr., town police chief, said that Espinosa was supposed to send home his female passenger when a motorcycle reportedly overtook him.

However, the motorcycle rider lost control and sideswiped Espinosa, hitting his head with a lumber, Aral said.

Espinosa was declared dead in a hospital.

Aral said that due to fear, the motorcycle rider fled but surrendered to the police later that night. He was identified as Archie Guanzon of Escalante City.

Aral said the victim’s family has yet to decide on the filing of a case.
