BACOLOD CITY – Two men were killed in separate incidents here Thursday afternoon.
The first case occurred around 4 p.m. at Hacienda Gensoli, Barangay Vista Alegre, where a 31-year-old man was found wounded in a sugarcane field.
The victim was identified as Reman Quiñanola of Barangay Bantayan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, according to police.
Police Captain Dax Santillan, head of Police Station 7, said the victim sustained head injuries and was taken to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he later died.
Santillan said they could not yet confirm whether the injury was from a gunshot, as no spent cartridges were found at the scene.
He noted that the injury might have been caused by an accident.
Authorities are waiting for the family’s decision to proceed with an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
“There were no witnesses because it was raining and the area was secluded,” Santillan said.
He added that the victim usually visited Bacolod to run errands.
Police are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and investigating the victim’s background.
About an hour later, at 5:40 p.m., another man was shot and killed at Purok Pepsi Zone 1, Barangay Bata.
The victim, identified only as “Mark,” 39, was sitting on a tricycle when an unidentified suspect approached and shot him three times with an unknown firearm.
Mark sustained gunshot wounds to the head, and the suspect fled on a scooter motorcycle.
Police Captain Rondyl Tapang, head of Police Station 3, said they are investigating the case as drug-related.
Empty sachets, believed to be used for repacking drugs, and drug paraphernalia were found in the victim’s pouch.
Tapang said police are focusing on three suspects and have already identified a person of interest.
CCTV footage is being reviewed to establish a link between the person of interest and the incident, which will aid in filing charges against the suspects.
