BACOLOD City – Two persons were killed after their motorcycle collided with a car at Barangay Inayawan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

Police identified the fatalities as motorcycle driver Marjohn Salumag, 21, of Barangay Guiljungan; and his companion Elizer Otic, 19, of Barangay Cabug here.

Police Major Lowell Garinganao, town police chief, said the two victims were on their way home when they crashed into the car driven by 52-year-old Arnold Arthur Laurio of Barangay Sum-ag here.

Garinganao said that both vehicles reportedly overlapped their respective lanes that led to the collision.

Laurio tried to swerve the vehicle to the right, but it was already too late as the motorcycle was reportedly speeding while they were approaching the curved portion of the road, he added.

“Dulom na da abi ang area tapos gab-i na, so wala niya (Laurio) nakita na may gapadulong na motor sa kurbada,” Garinganao said.

The two victims suffered head injuries, as they were not wearing helmets, the police chief added.

Garinganao said one of them died on the spot while the other was declared dead at a hospital.

Garinganao said Laurio fled because of fear, but he later surrendered to Sipalay City Police Station. He was supposed to fetch his wife who’s working at the said city when the incident happened.

Garinganao said Laurio was released from police custody last Sunday, following a settlement between him and the victims’ families.
