Two rebels slain in Negros Oriental clash with cops

BACOLOD City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Tuesday that two suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a clash against the PNP-Special Action Force (SAF) at Barangay Nagbinlod, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental last Monday.

Police have yet to identify the casualties in the clash that happened on the NPA’s anniversary last March 29, 2021.

According to the PNP, the encounter ensued between the policemen and the unidentified armed men believed to be NPAs while they were conducting combat operations in the area, and Barangays Alangilan and Nagbalaye.

Recovered from the scene were an M16 rifle, a .22-caliber revolver, three M16 short magazines, five cellular phones, a handheld radio, assorted ammunition, and subversive documents.

No injuries were reported on the government side.

PNP Chief Police General Debold Sinas, in a statement, said the PNP is determined to end the communist insurgency, including all fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing, the NPA.

The clash came about a week after the encounter between the military troopers and the NPAs at Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City on March 23 that resulted in the death of 10 alleged rebels.
