UPV-CFOS conducts webinar-workshop to improve public service delivery

To improve service delivery to society, the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas (UPV-CFOS), conducted a two-day orientation and workshop on public service on May 17-18, 2021 via Zoom.

The CFOS, through the Committee on Public Service, invited experts from the University to talk on various topics that could strengthen the skills and capability of the CFOS constituents in doing efficient and effective public service.

Assoc. Prof. Liah C. Catedrilla, CFOS faculty member, introduced the key principles of public service and extension services; Asst. Prof. Benmar B. Panaquiton, director of the Office of the Continuing Education and Pahinungod (OCEP), discussed the UPV guidelines on public service and extension services;  Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harold M. Monteclaro talked on how to incorporate public service in research projects; Asst. Prof. Jessica Dator-Bercilla explored possible external funding windows and how to access these funding mechanisms, especially for public service, and Ms. Charmie Saligumba, a faculty member of the Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, presented various digital tools and platforms for delivering public service activities.

Faculty members, Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS), administrative staff, and selected graduate and undergraduate students of CFOS participated in the activity.

The participants were divided into groups to prepare and present a public service proposal. Catedrilla and Panaguiton served as the critics of the proposals.

The CFOS has been engaged in various public service activities. The College has conducted training programs, community outreach activities, providing technical assistance and advisory services, and information services, among others, to the fisheries sector, government and non-government organizations, and private individuals. (Ms. Lenilyn B.
