A 50-year-old village official was killed in a car crash early morning of Nov 22, 2021 in New Lucena, Iloilo.
Barangay Captain Mark Dayot, 59, of Cato-ogan, Pototan, Iloilo, was declared dead on arrival at Iloilo Provincial Hospital.
Reports indicated that Dayot’s body was pinned in his Ford Everest sports utility vehicle (SUV) because of the impact.
He succumbed to multiple injuries on his body and head.
According to reports, Dayot was driving through Barangay Dawis, New Lucena around 3:30 a.m. Monday when he hit the rear tire of a 10-wheeler truck.
It is believed that he was speeding as his vehicle did not stop even after the first crash. His car then crashed into two other trucks which were all going the opposite direction.
It remains unclear if Dayot was drunk during the incident.
But reports indicated that he came from Smallville Complex in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, and was on his way home when the incident happened.
Police took into custody the three truck drivers following the incident.
They were identified as Marvin Ricaberte, 48, of Barangay Baybay, Roxas City, Capiz; Lumiriano Petallar, 49, of Barangay Migbandag, Claveria, Misamis Oriental; and Jerson Ricaberte, 38, also of Barangay Baybay, Roxas City.
Police are still investigating the incident but the drivers might be released if it is found out that they did not violate traffic rules during the mishap.
