BACOLOD City – An alleged former member of the New People’s Army (NP) wanted for robbery was arrested in Barangay Yao-yao, Cauayan, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.
Police arrested Jayson Provedencia, 23, a former member of Platoon 3, South West Front (SWF).
The court recommended a P100,000 bail for his provisional liberty.
Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here, said that Provedencia told the police that he previously surrendered to the authorities.
Provedencia, however, failed to provide a certificate to prove his surrender, according to Catalogo. Thus, police are checking his background.
Catalogo said the suspect’s case stemmed from the incident in 2022 in Barangay Masaling where he allegedly robbed the house of a soldier.
The suspect allegedly took the soldier’s two licensed firearms and intimidated the house owner, Catalogo said.
But the stolen firearms were not recovered, he added. The soldier was not at home when the incident happened, he said.
