The West Visayas State University (WVSU) system held a successful return of their annual inter-campus University Hinampang sports event last December 19, 2022, held at the WVSU main campus in Lapaz, Iloilo.
It was a mix of emotions for the WVSU athletes since engaging in their last face-to-face Hinampang three years ago before the COVID-19 pandemic broke loose last 2020.
Excited and ready to compete, the thousands in attendance screamed their lungs out and raised their respective campus banners high.
Vice President of Administration and Finance Dr. Porferio J. Barlas Jr. opened the program with a warm speech that motivated the athletes from the different WVSU campuses.
This year’s theme was: “Raising the Flags of Excellence” and indeed, the various campuses marched with pride and hoisted their banners during the ceremony followed by an urn-lighting ceremony led by Frech Cande Van Sola, the gold medalist during the 2020 Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA).
April Lyn Alba, an arnis gold medalist during the 2019 Regional SCUAA, spearheaded the sports fest’s athlete’s oath.
The 2022 WVSU Hinampang was then declared officially open by no other than WVSU President Dr. Joselito Villaruz while giving the athletes added motivation to go for gold.
These are the campuses that took part in this year’s Hinampang: WVSU Calinog, WVSU College of Agriculture and Forestry, WVSU Himamaylan, WVSU Janiuay, WVSU Lambunao, WVSU Pototan, and the WVSU Main campus.
The thousands of WVSU athletes will compete in 17 different sports headlined by basketball, football, volleyball, swimming, taekwondo, archery, arnis, and many more.
“We are very happy even though we faced so many challenges for this 2022 University Hinampang but I am very sure that this event will be successful. We placed great emphasis on the Hinampang to make sure everyone will experience the Best Hinampang. This year we have included esports and archery as additional events for our Hinampang. With gratitude to the support of the University Administration and the FSC and USC,” said WVSU sports director Dr. Richard Gabayoyo in an exclusive interview with the Daily Guardian.
Can the WVSU main campus defend its crown as the 2019 champions or will another campus dethrone them?
