Police on Sunday arrested a 32-year old businessman who was caught with 50 boxes of liquor in Passi City, Iloilo.

Police Staff Sergeant Manuel de Guia, Jr., Passi City police investigator, did not name the suspect but he claimed that the arrested person is a 32-year-old resident of Poblacion A, Dueñas, Iloilo.

The businessman was arrested after intelligence operatives of Passi City Police Station received information that a green Hyundai van was loaded with boxes of liquor.

In a subsequent surveillance operation, police spotted the vehicle parked on the roadside at Poblacion Ilawod.

The vehicle’s rear door was open and the driver was about to unload a sack.

Police operatives then approached the suspect and told him to open the sack.

In plain view, police saw two boxes of Tanduay Rhum.

A check revealed that the suspect was in possession of 50 boxes of Tanduay Dark in 375ml bottles.

The suspect allegedly bought the liquor in Iloilo City, which already lifted its liquor ban effective May 16.

He was placed in police custody and would be charged for violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (Resistance and disobedience to a person in authority or the agents of such person) in relation to Executive Order No. 118.

To recall, a driver was also arrested with 70 boxes of liquor at Barangay Aglalana, Passi City Friday last week.
