The two-day relentless campaign of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) led to the arrest of 58 wanted persons.

The province-wide operations are part of IPPO’s Birada Semana campaign which started May 14, 2021.

Dubbed as “Birada Semana,” it was a weeklong enhanced managing police operation (E-MPO) that focused their efforts on anti-criminality, wanted persons, illegal drugs, and illegal gambling activities.

Reports from the Police Operations Management Unit indicated that 4 of the 58 are most wanted persons or those on the list of top 10 most wanted persons in the municipal level.

Ajuy Police Station topped the number of arrested wanted persons with six.

Estancia Police Station came in second with five and Barotac Viejo PNP netted four persons.

Meanwhile, 35 firearms with no updated documents have been surrendered to the different police stations in the province.

More than half, or 21 firearms, were turned over to San Joaquin Police Station.

Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo police chief, said they’re expecting the numbers to go up before the Birada Semana ends on May 30.

While police are in the thick of arresting wanted persons, Gorero said they have not lost sight on the campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling, among others.

These are on top of carrying out their duties in implementing protocols relative to curbing the spread of COVID-19.
