Let me tell you a story. Some time ago, Games-Workshop came up with an all-female nuns-with-guns faction that developed its own cult following. They had old metal figures and only a few units to their name to the point that they couldn’t really be called a whole army. The figures themselves weren’t even available at most local stores and one would have to buy them straight from the webstore.
That was twenty years ago. Since then, people have been pining and waiting for the day they’d come up with a full set of the Sisters of Battle or the Adeptas Sororitas, warrior women clad in power armor just like their male counterparts, the Space Marines. While lacking in the same genetic enhancements and physical prowess, as the angels of death, they made up for such in faith. As faithful followers of the God Emperor clearly take inspiration from Catholic Nuns with the heavy metal presence turned up to a thousand. It’s like what you’d get if you turned a Powerwolf album into a Warhammer 40k army.
Thanks to a good friend of mine, I’ve been given the opportunity to embark on the exciting journey of painting an entire army of them! Penitent engines, tanks that are also pipe organs, and of course the sisters themselves. I’ll be painting them in the colors of the argent shroud and have already begun assembly on the tanks. There will definitely be more to follow.
Being able to paint different factions and exploring different parts of the franchise that I haven’t gotten the chance to delve into is honestly the best part about being a commission painter and one of the most rewarding.
