To assist farmers expand their livelihood opportunities, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office-6 released Php996,864 worth of input for the egg laying project of 56 members of Igbarawan Farmers Irrigators Association Inc. in Patnongon, Antique.
With the guidance of DOLE RO 6, through its Antique Field Office (DOLE RO6-AnFO), the beneficiaries – who are farmers, women, senior citizens, out-of-school youths and displaced workers – are now taking care of 675 heads of ready-to-lay pullets.
To ensure high production, they were also provided with feeds, vitamins, vaccines and other raw materials and equipment needed for the group-managed project of the barangay.
Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr, who supports diversified farming, is positive that the project will be sustainable considering the high demand of eggs in Antique. He added that the livelihood project suits the skills and expertise of the beneficiaries and very adaptable to their environment.
The project is perceived to supply the needs of local residents. It also has the potential to penetrate other markets if managed well.
The Kabuhayan Program is under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Program (DILEEP) which provides grant assistance for capacity-building on livelihood and entrepreneurial ventures for vulnerable and marginalized workers.
Ma. Cecilia S. Acebuque, DOLE RO6 – AnFO OIC- Head, said that the Kabuhayan Program of the Department of Labor and Employment aims to uplift the economic condition of workers from the informal sector through provision of livelihood projects.
Igbarawan Punong Barangay Jeremias Berte said he’s thankful to the Department of Labor and Employment for the opportunity entrusted to them to become a channel of blessings for their constituents.
