BACOLOD City – A member of the Philippine Army Reserve Command died while two others were injured after they figured in a collision along the Circumferential Road in Barangay Mandalagan here Monday morning.
Police identified the fatality as Renato Galingayo, 48, of Silay City, Negros Occidental, an Army reservist.
Wounded were Remy John Herida and his cousin Renante Magbanua, both residents of Pontevedra town.
Police Corporal Ian Baylon, traffic investigator of Police Station 3, said that Galingayo was on board a motorcycle on his way to their headquarters for his duty, when a tricycle driven by 23-year-old Gicart Magbanua swerved and hit his motorcycle.
Baylon said that both vehicles were in normal speed but Gicart lost control over his tricycle which caused the collision.
Baylon said that Gicart and his passengers were on their way to the construction site in Talisay City when the accident occurred.
Gicart was unharmed, but his brother Renante was seriously injured after his leg got stuck in the tricycle due to the strong impact of the collision.
All three wounded victims were rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here, where Galingayo expired later in the afternoon due to serious head injuries, the traffic investigator said.
The two other victims are now stable.
Baylon said Gicart is now under police custody and will be released early the following day if Galingayo’s family fails to file charges against him within the 18-hour reglementary detention.
