Binalbagan fails road clearing

BACOLOD City – The municipality of Binalbagan in Negros Occidental appeared to be the only local government unit that failed to comply with road clearing works ordered by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol, on his part questioned the DILG report pointing out that the evaluation team from the town of Ilog gave Binalbagan an 80 percent rating.

Mirasol also said that the local officials in his town all did their best to comply with President Rodrigo Duterte’s order and cleared all illegal structures in the municipality which occupied government-owned roads.

He said he is planning to meet with DILG-Negros Occidental Director Atty. Ferdinand Panes tomorrow, Oct. 14 to discuss the issue.

The DILG’s report also indicated that the cities of Bago, Kabankalan, San Carlos, Silay and Victorias got high compliance ratings.

Rated with medium compliance are the cities of Himamaylan, Sagay, Sipalay, Talisay and La Carlota including the capital of Bacolod.

For municipalities, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Toboso and Salvador Benedicto scored high compliance.

Those with medium compliance were Pulupandan, Calatrava, Candoni, Hinigaran, Ilog, Cauayan, Isabela, La Castellana, Manapla and Pontevedra.

The towns of San Enrique, Valladolid and EB Magalona were rated with low compliance.

In total for the whole country, 97 local government units did not comply with the DILG’s memorandum.

Earlier, the DILG gave a score of 88.3 percent to the Negros Occidental provincial government for their road clearing operations across the province, while Bacolod City got an 87 percent rating.
