BACOLOD City – The Bago City Health Office in Negros Occidental reported its first case of fireworks-related injury.

Based on the report posted by the Bago City Public Information Office (PIO) on Facebook, the victim was a four-year-old boy from Barangay Bacong.

He suffered an eye injury caused by boga, a noisemaker usually made of PVC pipe or bamboo for revelries.

From December 2019 to January 2020, the province has recorded 54 cases, 11 of which were from Bago City, according to the city’s PIO. Of the 11 victims, seven were minors.

The city government launched an advocacy campaign to prevent firecracker-related incidents, and to remind the public about its risks.
