ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) will start investigating the death of a 23-year-old man who allegedly fell from the patrol car of Pontevedra Municipal Police Station.

Police Colonel Julio Gustilo Jr., CPPO director, ordered the probe after learning of the incident that led to the death of Erwin Patanao.

Gustilo said they had a case conference with the Provincial Investigation and Management Detection Unit which leads the investigation.

The four police officers who were on board the patrol car were ordered to explain the incident.

Gustilo clarified that the police let Patanao ride at the back of the patrol because he was not arrested.

The provincial director assured the family of a fair and impartial investigation.

Patanao’s family is asking for a deeper probe as they are not convinced with the autopsy results from the Capiz PNP Crime Laboratory.

Police Major Christopher Candelario, Pontevedra police chief, said the victim died after his head hit the concrete pavement.

Candelario had apologized to the family.
