Capiz treasurer succumbs to Covid-19

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The provincial treasurer of Capiz died from the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19).

Wendizima “Wendy” Sustento, 61, of Sitio Kalubihan Brgy. Tanque passed away around 6:12 am Tuesday in a hospital here.

Sustento complained of hard breathing Monday evening and was immediately taken to the hospital. She tested positive for COVID-19, reports indicated.

The lady treasurer had just completed her COVID vaccine jabs on June 8.

“Her passing is a continuing reminder how cruel COVID-19 is. We are appealing to the public to please observe strictly new normal protocols. Let us always take necessary precautions to protect ourselves from the virus,” provincial administrator Edwin Chinel Monares said.

Meanwhile, the province logged 5 more positive cases on June 14.

Based on the data released by the Capiz Provincial Health Office, 4 of the new cases are from Jamindan and 1 from Roxas City.

At present, the province has 677 total active cases, pushing the total tally to 3,519 cases since the start of the pandemic.
