BACOLOD City – Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) director, encouraged members of the provincial police force to donate a portion of their rice allowance to victims of the recent eruption of Taal volcano.

Baleros, a native of Taal town in Batangas, said the rice allowance is a privilege given to members of the uniformed service. The allowance amounting to P650 (or equivalent to 20 kilos) is given monthly to police personnel.

Baleros also clarified that his encouragement is not mandatory, but more of an appeal to NOPPO officers to be compassionate to the victims.

The finance section will collect half percent of the rice allowance, or P325, from 1,971 NOPPO personnel.

The donations will then be handed over to officials of selected affected barangays in the town of Taal.

Baleros also told the police officers assigned in the towns and cities surrounding Mt. Kanlaon to review their contingency plan should an eruption occur.
